I had the chance to mentor Mariana during the Service Design Challenge. Mariana has shown strong skills of management since the beginning, taking care of aligning the team and made the group’s work instantly understandable. Her passion, skills for UX, and user-centered approach were meaningful for the service the team designed for this challenge. I had the privilege of mentoring Mariana and her team during the Philips Experience Design challenge as a design thinking coach. There, I was able to see Mariana's leadership and project management skills shine. She seemed to have a natural leadership of her team even throughout a difficult transition to remote work mid-pandemic. Mariana and her team didn't let that hold them back from learning and creating. Mariana's team was incredibly dedicated not just to the project or process, but to the users that they researched. They perfectly blended passion with compassion to focus on the needs of everyone in a fragile context of children with heart conditions. Even through the changes of the pandemic, their teamwork, curiosity, and dedication showed through in all of their work. Mariana was attentive and hungry to learn everything she could and I am happy I got to play a role in the design thinker she is becoming.
